Perspectives of Bullying: There Are At Least Two

Even though I was bullied in school, I still managed to feel a lot of empathy for the bullies who were hard on me, particularly when they received a stern talking to from a teacher. I’ve come to realize, there are two victims in childhood bullying.  One is more obvious, but, there are at least two.


Before a student accepts bullying from others, they, internally, have already come to a realization that who they are is not enough.  This is a mindset that is predicated on self doubt, ultimately seeking conformity. Accepting defeat in ourselves happens before any act of bullying takes place. 


Therefore, the victim of bullying, and the bully, are acting with insecurity. One of them is easier to discipline. But, both need to be understood.
